Crystal is the 6th child in the family, all born out of wedlock. The Muslim live-in partner of the child’s mother maltreated her badly which triggered her decision to leave him even if she was seven months pregnant with Crystal. The mother had a hard time working as household helper to provide for her children’s needs which prompted her to leave Crystal with her aunt. The aunt transferred the child to another family due to the child’s health condition.

However due to financial constraints, this second family then referred the child to the social welfare system who in turn referred the child for placement to an orphanage on November 12, 1993. The orphanage cared for Crystal but since she needed complete neurological testing and medical attention, Crystal was referred to Chosen Children for continuous case management.

Crystal, upon admission to Chosen Children on April 14, 1994, weighed 10.2 kilograms, measured 32.25 inches in height and had a head circumference of 20 inches. She is fed with blended food and she can consume one bowl of food every mealtime. She is given 6 ounces Lactogen milk formula every feeding time. Crystal has a longer sleeping pattern compared to the other children her age.

As a procedure, Crystal was brought to the Makati Medical Center (MMC) and she was recommended by the neuro-surgeon to have brain shunting because her CT scan and EEG and head ultrasound’s results indicated that she has a communicating hydrocephalus. We are presently awaiting an available bed space for the surgery at MMC.

CHOSEN CHILDREN VILLAGE FOUNDATION is maintained solely through donations, sponsorships and grants and has a Board of Trustees whose members serve without compensation.
