Jericho Cestina was was a full term baby born by normal spontaneous delivery in the Province of Albay on August 13, 1999. Based on the report of the referring agency, Jericho was placed under the care of the social welfare system due to his mother’s incapacity to take care of the child. At an early age his mother was afflicted with polio which affected her body and deflated her mobility to do even simple tasks for herself. When nobody from her maternal relatives was willing to take care of the child, his mother decided to surrender him to the institution for a better life.

Upon admission on March 26, 2000, he weighed 5.2 kg, measured 26 inches in height with a head circumference of 17 ½ inches. He had an enlarged head which was not proportionate to the size of his body. Because Jericho had cough and a cold, he was immediately brought to a Pediatrician at the Makati Medical Center for treatment. Findings showed that he had broncho pneumonia. Medicines were prescribed for his fast recovery and after a week of treatment his condition improved.
